Acetate, glow-in-the-dark spray paint, gesso, and gel medium on black mat board

This piece is one of those that came into existence because you were trying to make something else. In this case, I had drawn the tentacle feep as a regular ink drawing, then traced it onto acetate to make a stencil. I figured I'd spray-paint some glow-in-the-dark greeting cards. What could possibly go wrong? Well. The glow paint was very thick and quickly piled up on the stencil. As the stencil got heavier it started to crack when I'd move it (I think I made about three cards). But it was also very cool-looking now, and glowed quite intensely, so I didn't want to throw it away. Instead I used acrylic gel medium to plaster it down on some black mat board, and then painted in the negative space with black gesso to bring up the contrast. The oval mat is also streaked with glow ink. And so, I ended up making something I never would have done had I sat down to plan it.
