Mills Pond - Austin, Texas: Birds

A very common sight in Texas (possibly why it's the official State Bird), the mockingbird imitates the songs of other birds (and sometimes cell phones, car horns, alarm clocks, and people) in its territorial singing. They're also fairly aggressive (though not quite as mean as blue jays) and will attack other birds as well as complacent cats and dogs.

This nest I found in a tree right next to a fairly busy road. There was a mockingbird nearby who shooed me off for taking pictures. What was that I said about aggressive?

There are a great many bird species to be seen by the pond and in the surrounding park. My camera is not good enough to photograph them all clearly, but I have compiled a list of birds I've seen that I am reasonably certain I have correctly identified: List of Birds
