Here's a crayfish (crawfish, crawdad, whatever) exoskeleton. These guys are all over the creek, but the best time to see them is in the fall after the herons have moved on. You can see the holes they make all year round, though:

Here's a Photoshopped image of a crayfish. It's hard to see how brilliantly red they are through the murky, greenish creek water, so I adjusted the color levels in this photo to make the crayfish pop out.
