Mills Pond - Austin, Texas: Snakes

A wee little garter snake, terrified that I was going to try to eat it. Garter snakes feed primarily on insects, and I have known them to go wild for june bug grubs. They're a great addition to a garden as they consume large numbers of pest insects and are pretty much completely harmless to humans.
Many people I've talked to have expressed fear and concern regarding the presence of these snakes by the pond. Often they mistake these for venomous water moccasins and threaten to kill the snakes for safety reasons. In response to this, I have created an informational page to educate people about these snakes in hopes of easing people's concerns.
